An economic alternative to costly oak barrels while still providing the structure and flavors sought after by winemakers. LAGLASSE’ is one of the main stave suppliers to the major cooperages. Laglasse’ oak has a very tight grain, capable of providing incomparable aromas and complexities to the wine.
LaGlasse is located in the Vosges mountains, in the east of France, one of the most famous soils for French oak.
After being harvested, processed and sorted, the wood is stored in the open, enabling the desired tannins to develop and moisture to evaporate. After 24 months, and an 80% loss of volume of the raw material, the wood is ready to provide its most delicate aromas.
Staves are placed on plastic pallets & vacuum sealed in airtight aluminum packaging to maintain their quality.
To aid in determining the quantity of staves needed for the desired amount of oak in the wine, SpecTrellising is able to calculate the quantity of staves required for individual tanks/bins.
